Who we are

Stensyls is operated by Layermade, established in England. Contact us at hello@stensyls.com.

By using Stensyls you accept these terms. If you do not, please do not use it.

What Stensyls is

Stensyls is a planning tool. You build a 3D body close to your own, place the artwork you are considering on it, and judge how the pieces work together before anything becomes permanent.

It is sold as digital access to a web application. There is no physical product and no human design service.

What Stensyls is not

It is not a precision instrument and you should not treat it as one.

  • The dimensions shown are a guide for thinking about scale and spacing. They are not a specification and should not be handed to your artist as one.
  • The body you build is an approximation you configure. It is not a scan or measurement of you.
  • Stensyls gives no medical, safety or aftercare advice and takes no view on whether a tattoo is a good idea.
  • Final placement, sizing and execution are between you and your tattoo artist.

Your account

You must be 18 or over. Your account is personal to you and must not be shared.

You sign in by email, so keep access to that address secure and tell us at hello@stensyls.com if you think someone else has got into your account.

What things cost

What each Stensyls plan costs and how long it runs
PlanPriceTerm
Free£0Ongoing
Project Pass£1990 days
Year Pass£39365 days
Credit top-up£510 credits

Free gives you one cloud plan of up to three stencils, both manikins and all body controls, placement controls, placement labels, full-resolution Export Sheets, and 20 MB of artwork storage.

A pass adds multi-piece planning, up to 10 plans, 250 MB of artwork storage, the full Stencil LAB including lettering and the complete preset collections, groups, mirror and linked symmetry, and extraction credits: 5 with a Project Pass, 15 with a Year Pass.

Nothing renews automatically. A pass runs for its term and stops. We will not take another payment unless you buy again.

Prices are in pounds sterling and include any applicable tax. Where our payment provider acts as merchant of record, it is the seller for that transaction and its terms apply to the payment.

Buying a pass before your current one ends extends from the existing end date, and the new credits are available straight away.

When a pass ends

  • Your plans stay readable and exportable for 12 months.
  • You can still download images and spend credits you already bought.
  • You can keep editing one plan of three stencils or fewer on Free. We will not convert or damage your other plans to make that happen.
  • Buying another pass restores full editing to everything.

Your account shows the deletion date, and we email you 30 days and 7 days beforehand. Free accounts follow the same 12 months from your last sign-in.

Credits

Credits last 12 months from purchase, whether or not your pass is still running, and are used oldest first.

Credits included with a pass are granted once per purchase. Reinstalling, signing out or clearing your browser does not generate more.

A credit is reserved before a job and only spent once a usable result is delivered. If a job fails for technical reasons the credit comes back automatically. Trying again because you did not like the result spends another credit, and we will confirm that with you first.

If a result is visibly unusable, email us and we will replace it or return the credit.

Credits have no cash value and are not transferable.

Refunds

Our Refund Policy forms part of these terms. In short: tell us within 14 days of purchase and we will refund you in full, no questions asked.

This is on top of your legal rights, not instead of them. You have a statutory right to cancel a purchase of digital content within 14 days, and rights if what you bought is faulty, not as described or not fit for purpose. Nothing here limits those.

Your artwork

You keep ownership of everything you upload. We claim none of it.

You give us permission to store and display your content only so we can run the service for you. That ends when you delete it or close your account.

We will not use your content to train any AI model, and will not use it in marketing without asking you separately.

You must have the right to use what you upload. Do not upload someone else’s artwork without permission, or photographs of other people without theirs.

Do not upload anything unlawful, anything sexual involving a minor, anything meant to harass, or anything malicious. We may remove content that breaks these rules and close accounts where it is serious or repeated.

Stencil Extraction

Extraction makes a stencil from a photograph. You trace an outline around one tattoo and only what is inside it is sent. The Privacy Policy explains the handling in full.

Nothing is sent unless you press the button.

It works on one piece at a time, photographed close and in even light. It is not built for sleeves or large multi-piece areas, because it cannot tell where one piece ends and the next begins.

It reconstructs rather than copies. The output is generated and details can differ from the original. Check the result before relying on it. We cannot promise an exact reproduction.

You do not have to use Extraction. Everything else works without it.

Availability and keeping your own copies

We will provide the service with reasonable skill and care. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted or fault free.

Stensyls has a backup and restore function and you should use it. Please keep your own copies of anything you would be upset to lose.

Liability

Nothing here limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or anything else the law does not allow us to limit. Your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 are unaffected.

Otherwise, and as far as the law allows, our total liability is limited to the greater of £100 and what you have paid us in the 12 months before the problem arose, and we are not liable for losses neither of us could reasonably have foreseen.

We are not liable for a tattoo you get. Stensyls is a planning aid. The decision is yours and your artist’s.

Ending things

You can stop using Stensyls and delete your account whenever you like.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. Unless the breach makes it inappropriate, we will warn you first and give you a chance to export your work.

If we ever discontinue Stensyls, we will give at least 90 days’ notice so you can export everything.

Changes

We may update these terms. If a change materially affects you we will email you at least 30 days beforehand. If you do not accept it you can close your account, and if you have an unexpired pass you can ask for a pro rata refund.

Complaints and law

If you are unhappy, email hello@stensyls.com. We aim to reply within three working days.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer elsewhere in the UK you can bring proceedings in your own courts, and nothing here removes protections you have under the law where you live.

You can get free independent advice from Citizens Advice.
